Astaxanthin
Reddish pigment
Astaxanthin is a naturally occurring reddish pigment that belongs to the xanthophyll class of carotenoids. It is mainly produced by green algae and is responsible, for example, for the red colouring of crustaceans that consume these algae.
Strong antioxidant
The substance is also one of the strongest antioxidants and is therefore sometimes called the “queen of carotenoids”. Astaxanthin protects extremely effectively against the so-called free radicals and their devastating effects in the body.
