Artemisia / Artemisinin
Artemisinin is a secondary plant substance found in the leaves and flowers of the annual mugwort (Artemisia annua). Artemisia has been known in Chinese folk medicine for 2000 years and is also being taken more seriously and researched in Western medicine. To date, 245 different active ingredients have been isolated and proven. Besides the best-known ingredient, artemisinin, these include numerous anti-inflammatory polyphenols. Artemisia annua is used successfully against malaria (prophylaxis and treatment) and is also effective against all diseases caused by viruses.
