Turmeric
Yellow root
Turmeric (Curcuma longa) is a plant from the ginger family. It originates from India and Southeast Asia, is an important ingredient of the well-known curry powder and is also responsible for its bright yellow colour. The rhizome, i.e. the rootstock, to which the plant owes its name turmeric, is used. In the countries of origin, turmeric is not only used in cooking, but has also been used for thousands of years in traditional medicine as a remedy (e.g. in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) or Ayurveda).
Health-promoting properties
Turmeric has many health-promoting and healing properties, which is also proven in numerous studies, in which, however, mostly only the isolated active ingredient curcumin is used. Curcumin is considered the main active ingredient in the turmeric root. Turmeric is said to have an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effect, positively influence the intestinal flora and is considered to aid digestion. To improve the absorption in the intestine, it is recommended to add some black pepper to the turmeric powder.
