Anthocyanin
Antho from the Greek means blossom and kyanos blue dye. These are water-soluble plant pigments belonging to the flavonoids. They are actually found in most plants, but as the name suggests, especially in fruits and vegetables whose blossoms and fruits are blue, but also violet and red. Very high amounts of anthocyanins can be found in chokeberry berries, for example. Anthocyanins have a strong antioxidant effect, counteract inflammation and support the body’s defence against various pathogens. Anthocyanins can also have supportive and protective effects on the blood vessels.
